Police Week begins today
Amid festivity, a five-day Police Week 2017 begins today at Rajarbagh Police Lines ground in the capital with a promise to combat militancy and drug.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the programme, according to a press release of police headquarters.
Like previous year, Shamsunnahar, police superintendent of Chandpur, will lead the parade.
She will also get the President Police Medal (PPM-service) for her outstanding contribution to controlling violence against women and children, child marriage and narcotics abuse in Chandpur since last year.
This year, some 132 police officers and constables will be awarded Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) and President Police Medal (PPM) for their contribution in 2016. Some 41 police and Rab members will be awarded the PPM while 26 others the BPM.
Besides, 24 policemen will also receive BPM-service and 41 will receive PPM-service awards for their contribution to solving important cases, expertise, dedication and discipline.
This year, awards for social work will also be given.
Mohammad Sher Ali, a kindhearted policeman who burst into tears while rescuing a minor girl from an accident and made others cry by his noble gesture, has been selected for the PPM award. The president and the prime minister have issued separate messages on the occasion.
