Playful Bayezid
As soon as Bayezid watches a car passing by from the sixth floor of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital window he starts screaming with joy and asks his father to join him.
The father and son then sit together and count the cars, smiling.
He also shows a keen interest in writing. He draws squiggly lines and elatedly looks around with his bright and expressive eyes.
But at times, he gets frustrated with all the periodic checkups. He feels irritated and wants to go home since he misses his grandparents.
It has been four days since the four-year-old has been admitted to DMCH. Bayezid is diagnosed with premature ageing condition progeria.
He was initially diagnosed by a medical team of Magura Sadar Hospital (MSH), who later suggested sending him to DMCH.
“We just want our son to get better soon,” said his father Lablu Shikder.
Dr Samanta Lal Sen, the institute's chief coordinator, said, “Medical tests will be conducted before his treatment begins. We might give some medicines to slow his hormonal growth.”
He said they are not sure if it is progeria so they have to wait for the test results.
