One held over YouTube leak of 'Bhuban Majhi'
Police yesterday detained one person in the capital in connection with the leaking of Bangladeshi film “Bhuban Majhi” on social media site YouTube.
Earlier in the day, Fakhrul Arefeen Khan, the director of the National Film Grant-awarded film that was released on March 3 this year, filed a complaint with Gulshan Police Station regarding the leak.
Officer-in-Charge of the station Mohammad Abu Bakar Siddik told The Daily Star that they held one suspect for questioning. “A case will be filed against him if his involvement is proved,” he added. The director earlier told The Daily Star that they found the Liberation War-based film was being uploaded from a number of YouTube accounts illegally.
He said some of those were taken down by YouTube after the videos were reported to the online streaming service on copyright claims, but the film was still being uploaded by other users. “We want to set an example by bringing these perpetrators to book so that such incidents don't happen in future.”
“Bhuban Majhi”, which stars Bangladeshi actress Aparna GhoseIndian and India's Parambrata Chatterjee, has played at a number of international film festivals. The makers are currently preparing to release the film in India.
