Mukti Brikkhya aims to plant 30 lakh trees countrywide by 2018
Mukti Brikkhya yesterday planted four saplings on the Nagar Bhaban premises in the capital as part of their initiative to plant one tree for each of the 30 lakh Liberation War martyrs and thereby pay them tribute.
Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokon along with botanist Prof Dwijen Sharma planted the trees including mango, jackfruit, elephant apple and Medlar.
Mohammad Zahangir Alam, coordinator of Mukti Brikkhya, said they have already planted over 200 trees in 11 institutions, including Rangpur Radhaballabh Girls' High School, Jhenidhah Siddikia Kamil Madrasa and Abu Torar High School in Chittagong.
Kazi Zia Shams, convener of the platform, said Dhaka University Vice Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique recently inaugurated a part of their programme, which meant for the university campus, by planting a sapling on Senate Bhaban premises and they are planning to plant 194 more plants on the campus.
Different organisations like Bangladesh Scout, Nishi Dal and Sabuj Sundor Bangladesh have already extended their support to them and Shishu Academy will help them from next year, he said.
The tree plantation programme will continue till December 2018.
