Motijheel Ideal School, St Gregory's, Notre Dam win nat'l debate contest
A four-day long national debate competition ended at the capital's St Joseph Higher Secondary School yesterday.
Josephite Debating Club (JDC) of the school organised the debate with a theme "Juktir Drohe Lupta Houk Jangibaad er Glani, Dhanita Houk Pragatir Baani" (let the curse of militancy be eradicated through logic and the voice of progress reverberate).
Teams of Motijheel Ideal School and College, St Gregory's High School, and Notre Dame College bagged championships in different categories including novice, interschool and college.
When addressing the event, Matiur Rahman, editor of the bangla daily Prothom Alo, said, "Freedom of speech and thought is important and debate helps students think freely." Sixty-four teams took part in the competition.
