Missing trader's skeleton found after 7 months
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) claimed to have recovered the skeleton of a trader, who had been missing for the last seven months, from a rest house in Boroaulia area of Ashulia in Savar yesterday.
The skeleton of Billal Hossen, 50, a brick trader, son of late Gaher Ali of Borondi area under Shingair upazila in Manikganj, was found buried inside the premises.
Billal used to sell bricks in different areas including Savar, Dhamrai and Manikganj, said Rab.
On April 13, Billal went out on a delivery trip from Dhamrai to Zirani in Ashulia. Around 10:40am, he reached Nabinagar area. He had been missing ever since and his phone was found switched off, said Rab.
On April 15, his wife, Rokia Begum, filed a general diary (GD) with Dhamrai Police Station. Unable to find his whereabouts, his son on May 5 filed a written complaint with Rab-4 (Nabinagar camp).
Soon, the elite force started their investigation, and as part of it, they were trying to trace Billal's mobile phone.
On Tuesday, Billal's mobile phone suddenly became active.
On Wednesday night, tracing the phone's location, Rab arrested one Nasir Hossen Dipu, 45, caretaker of a dairy farm at Pandua of Savar, said Maj Abdul Hakim, company commander of Rab-4, at a press briefing near the rest house yesterday afternoon.
“After gleaning information from Nasir, we arrested Murshida Akter Sheuli, 34, from Radio Colony area in Savar the same night,” he said. “From their confessional statements, we dug up Billal's remains.”
He said Billal and Nasir were friends. On April 13, Billal went to see Nasir at the rest house where Nasir used to work as a caretaker. Sheuli was also with her friend Nasir at that time. They were alone there as the owner of the rest house used to live in the capital, he added.
The duo stabbed Billal to death and buried the body after cutting it into three parts. In order to hide his location, they also burnt Billal's mobile SIM card.
Recently, Nasir started using the mobile phone he snatched away from Billal, added the Rab-4 commander. “By using IMIE (International Mobile Equipment identity) technology, we were able to trace Nasir's location.”
“Soon after killing Billal, Nasir left his old job and started working at the dairy farm,” he added. “We are suspecting that Billal was killed for money,” he said. Rab also recovered two knives, used for killing Billal.
Contacted, Billal's wife said, “We don't even know them [Nasir and Sheuli]. My husband had no conflict with anyone...”
Billal's remains were sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for examination.
