Man stabbed dead in Ctg, 2 held
A man was stabbed to death at Akbar Shah in Chittagong city in the wee hours of today.
Deceased Md Yasin alias Mona, 22, was a resident of Akbar Shah area in the port city, reports our Chittagong correspondent quoting police.
Police detained two persons – Md Hossain and Md Forhad – in Firoz Shah area of the city for their alleged involvement with the killing.
There was a longstanding rivalry between two groups – one led by Yasin while another by Hossain -- over establishing supremacy in the area, said Sadip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of Akbar Shah Police Station.
The two were engaged in extortion and grabbing hilly land, the OC said adding that the rival groups locked into a clash two months ago.
Later, Yasin’s gang drove out Md Hossain of the locality. To take revenge, Hossain and his cohorts stabbed Yasin when he was waiting alone at Zianagar around 12:10am, the OC said.
On duty doctors at Chittagong Medical College Hospital declared him dead around 1:00am after he was rushed to the hospital, said Sub-inspector (SI) Md Jahir of CMCH police outpost.
