Man sent to jail for 'assaulting' Barisal doctor
A Barisal court yesterday sent a man to jail in a case filed for assaulting a doctor at a city hospital the day before.
The court passed the order against Shah Alam after police produced him before it, said Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Kotwali Police Station.
However, police freed Eliza Begum, wife of Shah Alam and a nurse of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, on Thursday night after her fellows abstained from work between 9:00pm and 11:45pm, demanding her release.
Earlier in the day, police detained the couple after Shah Alam allegedly slapped and punched Dr Faizul Haque as he asked them to come with reference for examining their eight-month-old child, Samir.
The hospital authorities filed a general diary in this connection and, later, police filed the case against Shah Alam, said Farhad Sardar, assistant commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police.
Nurse sources said Samir was admitted to the hospital with cold related diseases.
Meanwhile, the patients suffered while many of their attendants brought an allegation of negligent treatment during the work stoppage, which hospital Director (in-charge) Dr ABM Kadir denied.
