Man held with 3.5kg gold at Dhaka airport
Customs intelligence officials today detained a person and seized 3.5 kilogrammes of gold from his possession at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
The detainee was identified as Belal Hossain from Fulgazi upazila of Feni, said Moinul Khan, director general of Customs Intelligence.
Acting on a tip-off, the intelligence officials conducted a drive after Belal landed at the airport by a flight of US-Bangla Airlines around 10:30am, the DG said.
Later, E-shaped 65 silvery sheets of gold, worth Tk around 1.7 lakh, were found inside a microwave oven he was carrying, Moinul also said.
The sheets were electroplated to evade the scanning machine, he added.
Belal was, later, handed over to police.
