Justice Amir appointed ICT member
The government yesterday appointed Justice Amir Hossain, a judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, as a member of the International Crimes Tribunal-1.
Justice Amir Hossain replaced Justice Md Shohrowardi who was sent back to his original workplace at the High Court from the ICT-1 on Monday, Law Secretary ASSM Zahirul Haque Dulal told The Daily Star yesterday.
He said the appointment came after the SC sent a proposal to the law ministry.
The law secretary, however, could not say when and who will be appointed as chairman of the ICT-1 though the tribunal reached an impasse since July 13 when its chairman, Justice Anwarul Haque, passed away.
The president and the government will decide about appointing the ICT-1 chairman, Zahirul added.
However, Law Minister Anisul Huq on Monday said chairman of the tribunal will also be appointed within a day or two and both the appointments (chairman and member) might be made at the same time.
