JP leader Bablu urges for nat'l convention on politics
Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, former secretary general of Jatiya Party, yesterday urged the government to arrange a national convention with all the registered political parties to formulate a process for handing over of power through an election as well as change the "existing political culture of destruction".
Bablu also emphasised on unity to control population and crime at educational institutions and ensure good governance, while addressing a views-exchange meeting with journalists at Chittagong Press Club in the city.
He termed democracy without a positive political culture meaningless and freedom of mass media and criticism of government as important parts of democracy.
"Jatiya Party, as an opposition party, would be on the streets holding processions or rallies and criticising the government in parliament but would not commit violence," he said.
Bablu opined that the government has some failures in controlling the law and order situation and demanded immediate trial of the recent killing of a tea-seller in Dhaka.
