ICT wants charges, if any, on Aug 22
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 yesterday directed the prosecution to press charges, if any, on August 22 in a case filed against a Habiganj man for allegedly committing crimes during the Liberation War in 1971.
Yesterday, Prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chaman submitted a report on the progress of the case's investigation and sought three months' time. The tribunal allowed her prayer.
Abul Khayer Golap alias Golap Mia, 65, of Mamadpur village under Nabiganj upazila in the district, was arrested on April 11 following a prosecution's petition and he is now in jail.
Meanwhile, the tribunal allowed a prosecution's petition to interrogate Golap in connection with this case. Investigation of the case started on February 16 last year.
As per the order, investigators would be allowed to interrogate Golap at the safe home of the tribunal's investigation agency for one day on July 12, Chaman said.
The accused was the Razakar commander of Gajnaipur union and his father Motiur Rahman was a member of anti-liberation Peace Committee of the union in 1971, according to the prosecution.
Golap was found involved in at least five incidents of killing, rape, torture and abduction in the district, it said.
