ICT fixes May 31 for charge submission
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 yesterday directed the prosecution to press charges on May 31 against a former Bangalee army official who allegedly worked for the Pakistan army and committed crimes during the Liberation War in 1971.
The accused, Muhamed Shahidullah, also known as Capt Shahidullah, from Golaperchar village under Daudkandi upazila of Comilla, had involvement in confinement, torture, abduction, looting, arson and killing of at least three people during the war, according to tribunal's investigation agency.
For the first time, evidence of wartime offence was found against a person, who was working in Pakistan army during the war, agency officials said as they revealed findings after completing probe against Shahidullah on Tuesday.
Shahidullah joined the Pakistani army and was posted to the then West Pakistan. He had come to his Comilla residence before the war broke out on March 26, 1971, agency officials said.
Shahidullah along with other army men set up a camp at Daudkandi Sadar and tortured and killed civilians, they said.
