I was evicted illegally
BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed yesterday alleged that Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) evicted him illegally from the Gulshan residence as it did not serve him any prior notice.
“Now I am living at my Gulshan apartment where I have to sleep on the floor as my bed needs to be repaired,” he said, while addressing a press briefing at the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) auditorium.
Some pro-BNP lawyers including SCBA President Advocate Zainul Abedin and its Secretary Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon organised the briefing.
Barrister Moudud said some rare things, including a 1,000-year-old bati (bowl) made from Egyptian soil, from his personal collection, and some memorabilia of his two sons who passed away were also damaged or lost during the drive at the residence.
The BNP leader also claimed that the Supreme Court in its verdict had not said the government or Rajuk was the owner of the Gulshan residence where he had been living for 36 years and that they could evict him from the residence.
“Some ruling Awami League leaders have commented about the residence. I am sure they did not thoroughly read the Supreme Court verdict. Rajuk evicted me from the house like those from occupied chars, which is a violation of human rights,” he said.
On June 7, Moudud was evicted from the residence on one bigha and 13 kathas of land at Gulshan Avenue in Dhaka where he had been staying for more than three decades.
Rajuk took control of the house after the former law minister lost a long legal battle over the ownership of the residence and the land worth over Tk 300 crore.
Former speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar and former SCBA president Advocate AJ Mohammad Ali, among others, were present at the briefing.
