Health secy, DG face contempt of court charges
The High Court yesterday issued a contempt of court rule upon secretary to the ministry of health and family welfare, director general of department of health services and its director concerned for not complying with its order over admission of a student to a public medical college.
In the rule, the court asked them to explain in two weeks as to why contempt proceedings should not be brought against them.
The HC came up with the rule following a contempt of court petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond.
He said in the contempt of court petition that the HC on March 5 this year following his writ petition directed the three officials to admit his daughter to a public medical college for MBBS course and to pay her the money she had already spent for study at a private medical college.
In 2012, his daughter failed the admission test as she skipped answering some questions which did not have correct answer choices, Eunus said, adding that some experts also found the mistakes later.
The officials have not complied with the HC directive even after he (Eunus) requested them to execute the HC order for several times, but they did not response which is contemptuous, he said.
