Govt likely to set up HC benches in Ctg, Sylhet: CJ
The government is likely to set up two separate High Court benches in Chittagong and Sylhet, said Chief Justice SK Sinha while addressing the annual dinner of Sylhet Bar Association held on the Sylhet court premises Thursday, reports UNB.
The premier is keen on setting up the two HC benches in the two divisional headquarters, he said.
Meanwhile, lawyers in Chittagong yesterday urged the government to realise their demand of establishing a circuit bench of the High Court in the port city within January next year for lessening miseries of the litigants and justice seekers, reports our staff correspondent in Chittagong.
The lawyers made the demand at a press conference jointly organised by High Court Circuit Bench Implementation Council and Bangladesh Human Rights Commission at Chittagong Press Club.
“For filing any petition people of the port city have to rush to the capital which is not only a waste of time but also a financial burden,” said the Council's member secretary advocate Shankar Prasad Dey.
Former Chittagong district public prosecutor advocate Abul Hashem and Chittagong District Bar Association President advocate Kafil Uddin Chowdhury also spoke.
