Four of a family burnt in Dhaka house fire
Four members of a family, including two kids, sustained burns in a fire believed to be originated from accumulated gas in their Chawkbazar house in Old Dhaka early yesterday.
Locals took Rezaul Islam, 35, his wife Rani Akter, 25, and their two daughters Anika, 3, and Sanjida, 2, to the burn unit at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) immediately in a critical condition.
Anika and Sanjida are undergoing treatment with 26 and 47 percent burns respectively.
Shamimur Rashid Talukder, officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar Police Station, said they in their primary investigation found that there was a leak in the gas pipeline through which gas might have accumulated in their flat.
The fire started around 1:45am as Rezaul lit a cigarette, he added.
Talking to The Daily Star, Rezaul, however, said they were asleep and woke up suddenly after the fire engulfed their residence.
