Five lives lost in four districts
At least five people were killed and two others injured in road accidents in four districts yesterday.
In Barisal, an armed police battalion member was killed after being crushed by a locally improvised passenger vehicle on Barisal-Patuakhali highway near Barisal University.
The deceased was Alamin Sharif, son of Salam Sharif of Karnakathi village under Barisal sadar upazila.
The vehicle ran him over after he lost control over his motorcycle and fell on the road, said police.
In Rangpur city, a motorcyclist and his co-rider got killed after a speeding bus rammed their vehicle in the city corporation office area.
Bulbul Hossain, 35, son of Momtaz Uddin, and Ansarul Haque, 31, both from Domar upazila in Nilphamari, died on the spot, said police.
They were coming to Rangpur from home riding on a motorcycle. Locals blocked Dinajpur-Rangpur highway in Rangpur for three hours after the accident, causing sufferings to thousands of passengers of Dinajpur, Rangpur, Nilphamari, Thakurgaon, and Panchagarh.
In Jhenidah, a five-year-old girl was killed when an auto-rickshaw she was riding lost its control and crashed into a roadside tree in Jhaudia village under Shailakupa upazila.
The victim is Minu Khatun, daughter of Amhaj Mia of Jhaudia village. In Manikganj, a private car driver was killed and two of its passengers injured as the car fell into roadside canal after a BRTC bus hit it from behind on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Shibalaya upazila in Manikganj, said police.
The deceased was Sultan Sheikh, 35, a resident of Faridpur sadar upazila.
