Five killed in four dists
At least five people were killed in road accidents in four districts yesterday, apart from a major tragedy in Tangail where a single accident claimed nine lives.
In the capital's Basabo, two cousins were killed when a city corporation vehicle rammed a motorbike they were riding in front of the Buddhist Monastery early yesterday.
The deceased were Rimon, 25, and his cousin Sharin, 22, said Officer-in-Charge Kuddus Fakir of Sabujbagh Police Station, reports BSS.
They were declared dead in Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
In Chittagong city, an unidentified woman aged around 35 was killed after being hit by a locally-improvised passenger vehicle at Bahaddarhat intersection yesterday, says another BSS report. She was crossing the road around 5:00pm.
In another accident, an elderly woman was killed in Banshkhali upazila of the district.
Kulsuma Begum, 65, a resident of of Shilkup village of the upazila, died after being hit by a CNG-run autorickshaw near Nazir Ahmad Degree College.
She was declared dead in Chittagong Medical College Hospital, said Mohammad Alauddin Talukder, assistant sub-inspector of CMCH police outpost.
In Mymensingh, a man was killed and two persons injured as an oncoming truck rammed a motorbike on Mymensingh-Haluaghat road in Tarakanda upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Maulana Mosharraf Hossain Jihadi, 40; he died on the spot, said Mazharul Haque, officer-in-charge of Tarakanda Police Station.
The injured were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
