Five, including Rohingya refugee, held with Yaba pills
The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) arrested five drug peddlers, including a Rohingya refugee, with 8,200 Yaba pills in two drives in Chittagong city on Monday night.
Of them, Rashid Ahmed, 25, who fled from Noapara refugee camp, and Yasmin Akhter, 21, were arrested with 2,000 Yaba pills soon after they got off a bus in Firingi Bazar area, said Shahin Ahamed, deputy director of DNC Chittagong zone.
Later, in New Market area, the team held their cohorts Nurul Alam, 33, Jamal Hossain, 26, and Md Halim, all from Teknaf in Cox's Bazar. There were preparing to transport the contraband pills to Dhaka by train.
Local drug peddlers are luring Rohingya refugees, who fled into the country from Myanmar atrocities, into drug peddling by paying them Tk 2,000 to 5,000 each, said Shahin.
On Sunday, two other Rohingya refugees were arrested with 3,000 Yaba pills in the port city.
