Family still crying for justice
No significant progress has been made in one year in the investigation of a case filed for killing Rajshahi University student Motaleb Hossain Lipu, said his family expressing frustration.
Talking to The Daily Star, Lipu's parents said they are still waiting for identification of the killers and their trial.
Meanwhile, around 100 teachers and students of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of RU formed a human chain at Lipu Chattar on the campus yesterday, demanding justice in the case.
They demanded proper investigation and immediate trial of the case, marking the first anniversary of the murder.
Pradip Kumar Pandey, chairman of the department, said although the authorities concerned had assured them of proper investigation and trial, they are still waiting for that.
On October 20 last year, Lipu, 22, a student of mass communication and journalism, was found dead in a gutter beside the university's Nawab Abdul Latif Hall where he lived.
The same day, Bashir Mollah, an uncle of Lipu, filed the murder case with Motihar Police Station against unknown people.
Later, police detained Lipu's roommate Monirul Islam, a botany student, and, later showed him arrested in the case after interrogation.
However, Monirul received bail from a court on November 8.
In January, the case was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Inspector Asmaul Haque of CID said they could not find out the reason behind the murder yet. “But we are trying... We hope we will be able to give some good news in a few days.”
