Now they only wait for bodies
Now the only wish of the family members of the missing people of Tampaco Foils Ltd factory tragedy is to get the body of their loved ones.
Besides waiting in front of the factory in Tongi, worried relatives of missing persons regularly visit Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to know whether any new body has arrived.
Meanwhile, Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited has formed a committee to probe into the reason of explosion followed by a massive blaze on last Saturday.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. A number of probe committees are working to this end.
The death toll from the deadly fire rose to 34. At least eight people still remain missing and 50 others were injured.
Mir Moshiur Rahman, managing director of Titas, said the committee was formed on Thursday and asked to submit a report within seven working days.
Breaking down in tears Rupali Begum, wife of missing Masum Ahmed, said, “People come out of home to celebrate Eid. We did so to find my husband's body.”
Masum of Tanki village in Comilla worked as a printing operator there.
Masum's elder sister Sakhi Akhter said her brother and Rupali live beside the factory. They have one daughter. “Since the occurrence, she [Rupali] is waiting in front of the factory with her husband's photo,” she added.
Chunnu Molla of Bahirnagar in Faridpur used to be a helper at the factory. He has been missing since the incident.
His brother Nannu Molla said after the fire, they are staying around the factory. “Every day, we visit the DMCH at least one time…,” he added.
Akteruzzaman, assistant deputy director of Gazipur fire service, said they would continue the search as long as there is a single claim of a missing person. “Stench of bodies is coming out from debris,” he said.
Fire service men recovered over Tk one lakh from the rubbles, said Sub-inspector of Tongi Police Station Sumon Bhakta.
Factory authorities have alleged the fire was caused by a boiler blast. But boiler inspectors refuse to believe that a boiler explosion could have brought down the multi-storey building.
Fire service officials said the boilers at the factory were intact.
