Every village to get electricity by December next year
The three-day-long 4th International Conference on Advances in Electrical Engineering (ICAEE) was inaugurated at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) in the capital's Bashundhara yesterday.
Nasrul Hamid, state minister for power, energy and mineral resources, inaugurated the conference as the chief guest, said a press release.
The minister said new technology and technological ideas are changing the world so fast. By December 2018, every village of the country will come under electrification, he said.
Dr Quazi Deen Mohd Khosru, chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section and Professor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet); and Engr Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan, president, the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, attended the ceremony as special guests.
Prof M Omar Rahman, vice chancellor of IUB and the chief patron and chair of the advisory committee, presided over the inaugural ceremony.
Dr M Abdur Razzak, conference general chair, delivered welcome speech, while Prof Shahriar Khan, dean, School of Engineering and Computer Science, IUB; and Dr Mustafa Habib Chowdhury, organising chair of the conference, spoke among others.
The three-day conference will conclude tomorrow.
