EC can't hold fair elections
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the Election Commission does not have the ability to hold the next general election in a fair manner.
The present EC is serving the government, Fakhrul alleged while speaking to journalists after placing wreaths at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, marking the 39th founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, a pro-BNP body.
“The government has appointed people they like in the commission, so that it can hold one-sided elections to come to power,” the BNP leader said.
Referring to the upcoming city corporation election in Gazipur, Fakhrul said 45 leaders and activists of the party were detained after they sent a letter to the EC to remove Superintendent of Police (SP) Harun-ur-Rashid from the district.
So, there is no scope to think that the elections under the present EC will be fair, he added.
