DSCC, DNCC asked to transport garbage thru’ covered van
The High Court today directed the authorities concerned of Dhaka south and north city corporations to transport garbage through covered truck or van between 10:00pm and 6:00am every day.
It also issued a rule upon the authorities of both the corporations and the government to explain why transportation of garbage trucks and vans without proper cover and beyond the specific time should not be declared illegal.
In the rule, the court also asked them to show causes why they should not be directed to make appropriate rules and regulations for garbage collection inside Dhaka city under the section 41 of the local government (City Corporation) act 2009.
The High Court bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul-Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah came up with the order and rule following a writ petition filed by Barrister Mahfuzur Rahman Milon, executive director Justice Watch Foundation, a rights organisation which sought necessary orders on the authorities to stop plying of garbage trucks and vans without being properly covered beyond the stipulated time.
Barrister Milon told The Daily Star that the authorities have to collect garbage and transport it with covered trucks or vans between 10:00pm to 6:00am following the High Court order.
Barrister ABM Altaf Hossain placed arguments for the petitioner.
