Don't panic, it's curable
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon yesterday advised all not to get scared over chikungunya, a viral disease.
"There's nothing to panic… The fever is curable in seven days by taking paracetamol and no need to take any antibiotic," he said while inaugurating a crash programme for prevention of chikungunya and dengue at a function at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in the capital.
DSCC health department is implementing the seven-day programme to eradicate mosquitoes by spraying larvicide and adulticide to cover the entire DSCC areas.
Khokon said so far 150 people have been affected but none of them died.
He advised people to clean the water of flower pots, small jars and others places where fresh water remains stagnant, as Aedes mosquitoes that carry the virus breed there.
