Digital entry gate installed at DU central library
Dhaka University authorities today introduced digital system to enter the central library in a bid to tackle access of outsiders to it.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique launched the automated entry system around 4:00pm at the library premises.
“Students can use the main gate from tomorrow under the digital system,” said Hasan Jamil, an assistant librarian.

Digital cards, however, will be provided to all teachers, students and officials immediately, he added.
There has been an allegation that outsiders enter the library to take job preparations including Bangladesh Civil Services deepening the space crisis and depriving the regular students.
The digital entry system has been introduced so that the regular students can get access there.
The library that began its journey simultaneously with the Dhaka University in 1921 has 6,74,538 books and magazines. Besides, it has 30,000 rare manuscripts and a large number of booklets, leaflets, pamphlets, and puthis which are preserved in microfilms along with some rare books and documents.
