Diagnostic centres, drug stores fined
Mobile courts in Chittagong city fined six shopkeepers, two diagnostic centres and three pharmacies Tk 9.5 lakh for various irregularities yesterday.
In Agrabad area, a mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-7) fined Apex Diagnostic Centre and Shahjalal Diagnostic centre Tk 2 lakh and 1.5 lakh respectively.
At Apex Diagonostic Centre the court found that diagnostic test reports were being signed by technicians and date expired re-agents were being used for different tests.
At Shahjalal Diagnostic centre date expired re-agents were being used for conducting tests.
Three pharmacies inside Shahjalal Diagnostic Centre were fined Tk 1.5 lakh, 1 lakh and Tk 50,000 respectively for selling date-expired and unauthorised medicines, said executive magistrate Sarwoer Alam, who led the drive.
Meanwhile, a mobile court of the Chittagong district administration fined six shopkeepers Tk 50,000 each for selling nutritious biscuits that were supposed to be distributed among underprivileged school students for free under a government project.
The court led by Executive Magistrate Ruhul Amin also seized 1,350 packets of such biscuits.
The magistrate said he found a peddler selling some packets of those biscuits on Monday. Later he conducted a drive in Reazuddin Bazar area and found the biscuits in the shops.
The shopkeepers -- Chandan Biswas, Gopal Chandra Dutta, Jadab Dey, Swapan Dey, Amal Kanti Das and Jagadish Baul -- said one Uttam supplied the biscuits to them.
