BNP’s rally deferred to Nov 11
BNP today deferred its Wednesday’s rally marking the “National Revolution and Solidarity Day” to Saturday as the 63rd conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) is being held in Dhaka.
Now the party has sought permission from the authorities concerned for holding the programme at Suhrawardy Udyan on November 11 instead of November 8, said BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed.
“We deferred our Suhrawardy Udyan rally to November 11 from November 8 for the sake of smooth holding of the 63rd conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association,” Rizvi said while speaking at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office this noon.
A fresh prayer seeking permission for the rally has already been sent to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Rizvi said. “We expect that the permission will be given accordingly,” he said.
Earlier, the party has submitted an application to the DMP for holding the rally at the same place for the same purpose on November 8.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is likely to pay wreaths at the grave of the party founder late president Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area of Dhaka on Tuesday marking the day, Rizvi added.
The party has chalked out a 10-day programme to observe “National Revolution and Solidarity Day”, marking the “civil-military uprising” on November 7, 1975.
Amid political turmoil on November 7, 1975, soldiers and civilians jointly went on a revolution and freed then chief of army staff Ziaur Rahman from captivity in Dhaka cantonment, paving the path for Zia to come to power.
