Detectives arrest 'four fraudsters'
The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police yesterday claimed to have arrested four members of a fraud gang, who were allegedly involved in forging seals of ministries and police clearance documents.
Moslem Mia, 35, was arrested in the capital's Dainik Bangla area, Shah Alam Kabir, 42, and Ashikur Rahman, 23, in Shanir Akhra, and Md Abdur Rahim, 28 in Jatiya Press Club area.
The fraudsters mainly targeted people with little education, who look for police clearance certificates to work abroad, said Mir Muddasser Hossain, deputy commissioner of Serious Crime Investigation (SCI) Division of DB.
He said the gang members used to collect Tk 10,000 for providing a fake certificate, while the actual government fee for the certificate was only Tk 500.
The SCI members seized over 800 forms with the Bangladesh government logo, 1,612 fake police clearance documents, 617 seals of ministries and other government, non-government and police officials.
The DB official also claimed the detainees confessed to their crimes.
A case was filed with Jatrabari Police Station.
