Destiny challenges ACC’s notice for wealth statements
Two separate writ petitions were moved before the High Court today challenging the legality of Anti-Corruption Commission’s notices that sought wealth statements from two detained top officials of Destiny Group including its chief Rafiqul Amin.
Destiny Group Managing Director Rafiqul and Destiny Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd Chairman Mohammad Hossain submitted the writ petitions on July 19 with the HC saying that the ACC arbitrarily issued the notices to them with mala fide intent.

In the petitions, they also said it was not possible for them to submit the wealth statements to the commission, as they were now in jail, ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star citing from the petitions.
The HC bench of Justice Md Ruhul Quddus and Justice Bhishmadev Chakraborty today started hearing the petitions and it will resume the hearing tomorrow, the ACC lawyer said.
Advocate Khurshid said the commission at first issued two notices to Rafiqul and Hossain on June 16 and 15 respectively asking them to submit their wealth statements to it in seven days, but they did not do so.
The commission on June 26 for further issued two notices asking them to give their wealth statements to it by July 11, he said, adding that they did not respond to the notices, but filed the writ petitions with the HC challenging the legality of the notices.
On June 20, Rafiqul and Hossain got bail from the HC in two money laundering cases involving around Tk 4,200 crore.
The ACC recently filed two petitions with the Appellate Division seeking stay on the HC orders of bail.
The apex court is set to hold hearing on the stay petitions on July 31.
