Deal inked for rail link supervision consultancy
Bangladesh Railway (BR) yesterday entered a deal with a consultant firm Construction Supervision Consultant (CSC) for job of the Padma bridge railway link project as supervision consultant.
Bangladesh Army and Bureau of Research, Testing and Consultation (BRTC) of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) jointly formed the CSC.
Project Director of the Padma Bridge Railway Link Sukumar Bhowmik and Project Manager of CSC Cell Colonel Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad signed the contract on behalf of their respective sides.
Railways Minister M Mazibul Haque witnessed the signing ceremony as the chief guest, while Chief of Army Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq was present as the special guest.
The minister said the present government is working to provide services to passengers, adding, "Currently a total of 46 projects are under implementation in the railway."
He said the government would bring all districts under railway network. "We have undertaken a project to begin bullet train on Dhaka-Chittagong route," Mazibul added.
According to the details of the project, the government is set to construct 172km railway line from Dhaka to Jessore through Padma Bridge involving Taka 34,990 crore, of which Taka 24,749 crore would come from China and the rest of Tk 10,240 will spend from the government exchequer. It said the proposed construction of rail lines on the Padma Bridge, Dhaka-Mawa-Bahnga-Narail-Jessore would be completed during the next six years.
