CU allocates only Tk 10 lakh for research
Chittagong University yesterday announced a budget of Tk 175.60 crore for the fiscal year 2015-16 with low allocation for research and education sector.
CU Acting Registrar Prof Kamrul Huda proposed the budget, which has no deficit, at the 27th annual senate meeting at the administrative building.
Of the budget, Tk 115.60 crore has been allocated for salary and allowance of teachers and other staff and Tk 2.17 crore for repair work and preservation while Tk 12.46 crore for service and transport sector. However, only Tk 10 lakh has been allocated for research while Tk 20 lakh for education sector.
Kazi SM Khosrul Alam Quddusi, general secretary of CU Teachers' Association, said at least Tk 20 crore is required annually for quality researches under such a university which is running 42 departments and seven institutes.
The University Grants Commission approved Tk 159.40 crore and the authorities are expecting to earn Tk 16.20 crore from its own income sources.
