Ctg substation blaze causes outage
Power supply in the city and its adjacent areas was disrupted for several hours early yesterday as a power substation caught fire at Hathazari the night before.
No causality was reported in this connection. Power Grid Company Bangladesh Limited (PGCB) has formed a three-member committee to probe into the incident, said sources.
Prabir Kanti Das, superintendent engineer of PGCB in Chittagong confirmed the power outage, saying that one of the four transformers at the substation caught fire around 11:00pm on Saturday.
The fire was doused in 20 minutes, before it ignited 60,000 litres of oil in the transformer, said Jaker Ahmed, senior station officer at Hathazari Fire Station.
Meanwhile, fire fighters put out a fire that destroyed five shops and a house in the city's Kadamtali area yesterday.
