Ctg inter-district goods carrying vehicles threaten to call strike
Inter-district truck and covered van owners yesterday threatened to go on a strike if their six-point demand is not met by October 4.
The demands include axle-load of vehicles be fixed after consultation with experienced people in the sector; chassis size should not be reduced while decision of removing bumper and side-bar from vehicles should not be made whimsically, and all related cases be withdrawn; City Corporation tax which has recently been increased to Tk 1,0000 per vehicle from Tk 500 should be reduced ; robbery on highways be prevented, and harassment by highway police in the name of checking documents be checked; tax on importing spare parts of vehicles be reduced, and establishing a separate terminal for the association be established on Chittagong-Dhaka highway.
Chowdhury Zarar Ahmed General Secretary of Truck and Covered Van Owners’ Association read out the demands in a press conference in Chittagong Press Club auditorium.
