Court decides on charges Nov 2
A Dhaka court yesterday fixed November 2 to decide whether the charges brought against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and 37 others for Jatrabari arson attack on a bus on January 23 will be accepted.
The order came after Uzir Ali, a general recording officer of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka, placed the charge sheets of two cases in that connection.
The court also said it needs more time to scrutinise the case dockets and other relevant documents.
Earlier two other courts had shifted the dates twice for passing orders on the charge sheets on the same ground.
The other accused include BNP leaders MK Anwar, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, and Amanullah Aman, Khaleda's advisors Khandker Mahbub Hossain and Shawkat Mahmud, her special assistant Shimul Biswas and her press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan.
Of the accused, seven including Rizvi are now in jail while 31 others including Khaleda were shown fugitive in the charge sheets, and the IOs prayed for issuance of arrest warrants against them.
According to the charge sheets, the BNP chief masterminded the arson attack.
