Court asks for probe report by Oct 10
A Dhaka court yesterday again asked detectives to submit by October 10 the probe report of a case filed over abduction of writer, columnist and poet Farhad Mazhar.
Metropolitan Magistrate Khurshid Alam passed the order after Mahbub Alam, an inspector of detective branch of police and also the investigation officer of the case, failed to submit any probe report yesterday.
Earlier on August 2, another Dhaka court asked DB to submit the probe report by yesterday.
A joint team of Rab-6 and Abhoynagar police in Jessore found Farhad on a bus in Jessore around 11:30pm on July 3, more than 18 hours after he reportedly went missing from outside his home.
The following day, Farhad gave a judicial statement before a magistrate where he said a vested quarter orchestrated the incident to put the government in an embarrassing situation.
He also said law enforcement agencies later rescued him from a bus in Noapara in Jessore while he was heading towards the capital after the abductors released him in Khulna.
Hours after Farhad went missing, his wife, at a press conference at their residence, said she got a phone call from his [Farhad] number at 5:29am. “He told me that some people were picking him up. He said they would kill him.”
The family received the last call from him at 7:30pm, she said.
