Convict Ctg BCL leader gets bail in one case, denied in another
A Chittagong court yesterday rejected a BCL leader's bail petition in an arms case and granted another over two concurrent one-year sentences handed down by a mobile court at a polling centre.
Nurul Azim Rony, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chittagong city unit general secretary, was arrested at the Chariya Board School centre in Hathazari upazila's Mirzapur union during union parishad elections on May 7.
An unlicensed 9mm pistol, 15 bullets, a voting seal and Tk 26,000 were seized from his possession. A judicial magistrate handed down the sentences and the case was filed with Hathazari Police Station by Sub-inspector Robiul Huq.
Chittagong District Sessions Judge Md Nurul Huda passed yesterday's orders.
Advocate Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury, representing Rony, said they would seek bail at High Court.
