Conference on climate research ends at IUB
A four-day “Gobeshona International Annual Conference for Research on Climate Change in Bangladesh” ended at Independent University, Bangladesh in Dhaka's Bashundhara on Wednesday, says a press release.
Environment and Forests Minister Anwar Hossain Manju was present as the chief guest while lawmaker Saber Hossain Chowdhury, president of Inter-Parliamentary Union as a special guest.
The International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) at IUB organised the conference supported by USAID.
Dr Saleemul Huq, director of ICCCAD, presented a keynote paper.
Dr Atiq Rahman, executive director of Bangladesh Center for Advanced Studies (BACS); and Rashed Chowdhury, IUB chairman, also spoke at the concluding session chaired by IUB Vice Chancellor Prof M Omar Rahman.
Manju said this conference will bring the researchers, academics, activists and relevant experts together to express their opinions and valuable recommendations that will lead shaping the future policy of the government.
Saber Hossain emphasised collective national and international efforts to fight the negative impacts of climate change and expected international support for Bangladesh to mitigate loss.
Almost 200 national and international researchers including representatives from the government of Bangladesh took part in the programme.
