CMP to deploy 3,000-strong force
Nearly 3,000 personnel under Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) will ensure security at the city's mandaps (worship pavilions) and immersion points during the Durga Puja this year.
A large number of police members will also patrol the city and the CMP will set up a control room at Patenga Police Station to monitor and check any untoward situation, CMP chief Iqbal Bahar said yesterday following a meeting with Puja Udjapan Parishad of Chittagong city.
Representatives of different government organisations, leaders of the Hindu community and police high-ups were present at the meeting at the CMP headquarters.
Visitors will be body-searched at entry points of the mandaps, the CMP commissioner said, adding that archway gates and metal detectors will be used at critical locations.
Also, they have advised all organising committees of the festival to install CCTV cameras at entry and exit points of all mandaps and places of subjugation (Aroti), Iqbal said.
