Clean Dhaka possible with people's help
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon yesterday requested the city dwellers to keep their own houses and yards clean.
At a programme titled "Public Representatives Facing the People" held at ward-21 of DSCC, Khokon said they cannot keep the city clean as per their expectation due to a lack of cooperation from city dwellers.
The DSCC set up numerous bins in the city, but many of those have already been stolen while some people are even using them as flower pots, said the mayor while taking questions from the general people.
It is possible to keep the city clean, if city people become a bit conscious and refrain from dropping waste on roads and footpaths, he added.
About parks, the mayor said they were modernising 31 parks and playgrounds in the city.
The DSCC is modernising the Osmani Udyan to make it an "anger management park" where people can cope with their daily stress.
The concept of such park is new and it is already famous in many countries, he added.
When angry people will visit the park, its soothing environment will help them reduce his anger, he further said.
PROGRAMME DISRUPTED
The programme of the DSCC suffered a setback when the wooden stage built for the function in Paribagh suddenly broke down around 12:31pm. No one, however, was hurt in the incident.
Around 25 people were on the stage when the stage, some 3.5 feet high, suddenly collapsed without any apparent reason. The programme that started around 11:30am ended shortly after the accident.
