CCC mayor assures road transport leaders of meeting demands
About 90 percent of the vehicles will go off the roads if law is enforced properly, said Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Md Iqbal Bahar at a meeting yesterday.
The meeting was held in the conference room of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) to discuss the nine-point demand of the Chittagong regional committee of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation.
“We have to overlook many things in reality,” Iqbal further said in response to one of the federation leaders' query about four-wheeler human hauler.
CCC Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin assured the leaders of meeting their demands gradually after discussing with the people concerned.
The demands include construction of terminals for bus, truck, prime mover and trailer; specific parking spots for auto-rickshaws and three-wheelers known as tempo; end of police harassment; effective measures to check traffic congestion and road accidents in Chittagong city; registration for unregistered auto-rickshaws.
