BU academic activities resume after a week
The academic activities resumed at Barisal University yesterday as the students unlocked the classroom doors after a weeklong demonstration to press their various demands.
The students said they called off their strike after the authorities assured them of meeting their demands at a meeting between them and the vice chancellor, campus sources said.
They said from now on the authorities will prioritise freedom fighters or their children during the recruitment.
Their other demands include reducing tuition fees, resolving the accommodation and transport problems, providing adequate health and sanitation facilities, a common room, and a prayer room.
Vice Chancellor Prof SM Imamul Haque said the students' demands are logical.
The general students had been conducting movements since July 24.
