BNP meets CEC, asks him to quit
BNP yesterday urged Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad to quit, claiming fair polls were not possible under him.
A four-member delegation led by Vice Chairman Abdullah Al Noman said to have stated this after meeting the CEC at the EC secretariat for around an hour starting around 2:00pm.
Noman told journalists afterwards that polls under the present EC were marked by irregularities, ballot stuffing, occupying of polling stations and intimidation on rival candidates by the ruling Awami League men.
But the EC did not take any effective measure because it turned into an “errand boy” of the government, he alleged, demanding judicial investigations to reveal actual scenarios of the polls.
