BCL suspends 19 activists
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) yesterday suspended 19 of its leaders and activists following a factional clash at Dhaka College that left three injured on Saturday evening.
BCL central committee came up with the organisational step at an emergency meeting, according to a press release issued yesterday.
SM Jakir Hossain, BCL central committee general secretary, told The Daily Star, “We have suspended our 19 activists as they were found guilty of the crime as per our investigation. We also asked the law enforcement agency to take legal action against the culprits.”
The suspended leaders and activists are BCL Dhaka College unit convener Noor Alam Bhuiyan Raju; four joint conveners - Hiron Bhuiyan, Shahjahan Bhuiyan Shamim, Saleh Ahmed Hridoy, Samad Azad Julfikar; five members - Shahriar Rashed, Hasanuzzaman Munna, Rahmatullah, Rubel Mondol, Saddam Hossain; and nine other activists - Mahmudur Rahman Saikat, Abdul Aziz Foyez, Nayem Ibne Azad, Tuhin, Jashim Uddin, Mainul Islam, Milton Khandaker, Rana and Sujan.
On Saturday evening, at least 20 shots were fired when two factions of the pro-Awami League student body of Dhaka College unit locked in a clash over establishing supremacy on campus.
Meanwhile, police on the same night detained 32 BCL leaders and activists who were shown arrested yesterday following two cases filed with New Market Police Station, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atikur Rahman confirmed The Daily Star.
