BCL activists beat up student at JU
Two Bangladesh Chhatra League activists beat up a student at Jahangirnagar University on Thursday night.
Sadekul Islam Timon, a first year student of drama and dramatics, was attacked in a room of AFM Kamal Uddin Hall.
The incident came to light yesterday when his parents came to the university to file a complaint to the authorities.
Timon said, “BCL activists Saddam of urban and regional planning department and Mridha of drama and dramatics entered the TV room around 1:00am and asked me some absurd questions like why my hair is long and why I don’t stay in the hall regularly. Later, they started beating me with sticks.”
Saddam said Timon beat up one of his classmates on Monday. “We inquired about the matter and only slapped him.”
JU BCL president Jewel Rana said, “We resolved the matter after discussing it with his [Timon] family. I never support this kind of behaviour on the campus.”
Timon’s parents said they accepted the settlement because BCL leaders assured them of disciplining the activists. However, the family said if the attackers are not punished, they would complain to the authorities.
