Bangladesh seeks IEC cooperation to attract foreign investment
Bangladesh has sought the cooperation of signatories to the International Energy Charter (IEC) to help promote foreign investment in the country's power and energy sectors.
The IEC is a declaration of political intent to strengthen energy sector cooperation between signatory states. At present Bangladesh enjoys observer status at the IEC.
State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid urged for the cooperation when a delegation of the Netherlands-based global body, led by its secretary general Dr Urban Rusnak, met him at Abu Dhabi on Saturday, according to a message received in Dhaka.
The IEC has been formally adopted and signed at a ministerial conference hosted by the Netherlands.
The state minister has been in Doha to attend a conference of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) on January 14-17.
Nasrul Hamid had elaborate discussions with the IEC delegation members about the cooperation between Bangladesh and the global body.
He presented the current state of the energy sector in Bangladesh and also the potentials laying for future investment in the country.
