BNP central leader Tipu held in Dhaka
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) today arrested Kazi Rawnaqul Islam Tipu, forest and environment affairs assistant secretary of BNP, in Dhaka for his alleged involvement in attacking police on Tuesday.
A team of Rab-10 arrested Tipu around 3:00pm in Shahbagh area of the capital, according to a message of the Rab headquarters.
Besides, a team of police arrested Refayet Ullah, Savar municipality unit president of BNP, from Paltan area around 2:00pm in connection with the same charge, Arshad Hossain, Sub-Inspector of Paltan Police Station to The Daily Star.
On Tuesday, hundreds of BNP men swooped on policemen in the High Court area and snatched away two of their fellows. Three policemen were injured and a prison van was vandalised in the attack.
The incident occurred when a motorcade of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was heading towards her Gulshan residence crossing the area from Bakshibazar makeshift court.
Three separate cases were filed against several hundred leaders and activists.
