Arrest 'killers' in seven days
Bangladesh Chhatra Union yesterday submitted a memorandum to the home ministry, demanding arrest of the "killers of its activist" Afsana Ferdous in seven days.
Otherwise, they will besiege the ministry.
The Chhatra Union activists started to march towards the secretariat from Dhaka University but were stopped by police at Doyel Chattar. Scuffles broke out when the activists tried to get across the barricades.
"At least three activists were injured during the scuffles with police," claimed Lucky Akhter, president of Chhatra Union. They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, she said.
The memorandum was also submitted to the deputy commissioner's (DC's) offices across the country yesterday, she claimed.
After passing through Doyel Chattar, the activists gathered in front of Jatiya Press Club and held a rally.
Speaking at the rally, Lucky said, "If the killers of Afsana are not arrested within seven days, the home minister's failure will be proved and we will demand his resignation."
Later, a team of five led by Lucky Akhter visited the secretariat and submitted the memorandum at the home ministry.
The memorandum lists three demands including arrest of Tejgaon College Chhatra League leader Habibur Rahman Robin who they allege killed Afsana and a second autopsy, rejecting the first one.
Two youths left Afsana, a student of Mirpur's Saik Institute of Management and Technology, at a Dhaka hospital in an unconscious state August 13. Police later informed the family members who alleged that she was murdered.
