Alleged rapist held, remanded
A Chittagong court yesterday rejected a case filed against two cops allegedly for destroying evidence of a rape of a 12-year-old girl in Rangunia of Chittagong and for making her mother sign a false FIR accusing the victim's brother.
Officer-in-Charge of Rangunia Police Station Humayun Kabir and Sub-Inspector Majibur Rahman were the accused in the case.
Judge Mir Safiqul Alam of Chittagong Women and Children Prevention Tribunal-2 passed the order, said court sources.
The court rejected the case as investigation in two other cases -- one filed by the mother against alleged rapist Shah Alam and another one against the victim's brother -- is not yet complete, said the plaintiff's lawyer Md Ershadur Rahman Ritu.
Meanwhile, police arrested Md Shah Alam in Anderkilla area of the port city on Wednesday night following an order of the High Court.
The court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Khudrat-e-Elahi granted a three-day remand for Shah Alam, after police produced him before it praying for a five-day remand, said Court Inspector Unu Mong.
The victim worked as a domestic help at the residence of Shah Alam, 55, an
influential resident of Shilok Minagazir Tila, and reportedly became pregnant.
On May 8, Rangunia police detained Shah Alam after the victim's mother filed a complaint with them. However, they later released Shah Alam and detained the victim's brother.
When the incident was published in a daily, a Supreme Court lawyer filed a petition with the HC seeking its order to summon the Rangunia police officials, including the OC, for filing a fabricated case.
Later on May 25, the HC directed police to arrest Shah Alam.
The victim's brother is now at the juvenile correction centre in Gazipur.
